Our Practices

Image

Eco-Friendly

We are always working to minimize our impact on the environment. We have preserved the mangroves on the beach, as well as a number of coconut palms and sea grape trees. This not only reduces erosion but also provides a habitat for small sea creatures and birds.

Image

Off-Grid

Serenity Sands is completely off-grid, using solar and wind power with a generator backup. A large percentage of our lighting is energy saving LED and compact fluorescent. All fans are energy efficient and are used throughout the resort to reduce the use of air conditioning. We use on-demand water heaters, and all lights and fans are shut off when not in use. Towels are laundered every 3 days and sheets every 7 days, or when requested.

Image

Natural Products

Serenity Sands collects rain water in a large cistern. We use water-wise gardening methods and mulch lawn clippings to preserve moisture. All gardening is done using chemical free pesticides and fertilizers.
Shampoos, conditioners, and soaps are paraben, sulphate, and cruelty-free.
Cleaning supplies are phosphate and chemical free and are biodegradable.
Our breakfasts are either from our own organic garden or are sourced locally.

Image

Sustainability

Serenity Sands strives to reduce our carbon footprint by continually improving or adding to our waste management practices. We use recycled-content toilet paper and tissues as well as corn-based plastics whenever possible.
We provide cloth napkins and bedroom sheets and bathroom towels are made from bamboo or cotton. Kitchen and garden waste is either composted or fed to the chickens.
All of our wood furnishings and paintings are purchased from local artisans and we employ local staff.
